Helianthus or Sunflower, are part of the Asteraceae (daisy) family. All over the world they come in many shapes, colors and sizes. They follow the direction of the sun, and this cheerful fact made three year old Anna fall in love with them. What’s commonly thought as the flower is actually the “flower head” containing a fibonacci spiral of flowers coming from its center. They are truly my favorite flower inspiring hope and joy.
In order to get the depth of color, I hand-inked two woodblocks and printed one on top of the other. The first had five blended colors and the second woodblock had three blended colors on it.
